Nursing in Australia

Just as nurses from developed countries like the UK, Ireland, USA, and Canada must register with their respective national agencies, overseas nurses looking to work in Australia must register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Find out more information about international nurses working in Australia.

Australia has one of the best working environment for nurses. Both private and public nursing facilities have the latest technologies, allowing nurses to maximise their skills and experiences.

Australia is one of the leading destinations for nurses from overseas who are looking for permanent nursing positions or working holidays.

Nurse Jobs Australia

Australian Nursing Agency Network (ANAN) provides nurses with plenty of opportunities to work in both private and public clinic settings within all major cities. If you are keen to explore the country more and find temporary placements wherever you are, we can make that happen! If you’re looking for more permanent position, we can assist you in finding employment with a local nursing facility.

Due to ANAN’s extensive network, rural and remote nursing jobs in Australia’s vast outback are also available.

If you’re in Australia and looking for more information about ANAN, tax, superannuation and health insurance, check the details below. And if you’re based overseas, you can apply online here.

Visit our Nursing Jobs Board to find out the current job opportunities we are looking to fill.

Tax Information

As mandated, Australian Nursing Agency Network requires nurses to submit their Tax File Number (TFN). For those coming from overseas or those who are in Australia on a working holiday, ANAN will provide you with the TFN Application Form. Taxes will be deducted from your weekly pay and this will be based on the approved scale. Fore more information, check with the Australian Taxation Office.

You can choose the superannuation fund or retirement savings account to which ANAN will make future superannuation guarantee contributions. All ANAN members will receive the Superannuation Standard Choice form. Under the choice, an employee has the ability to have their Superannuation Guarantee Contribution (SGC) paid into the complying super fund of their choice. You can find further information on your superannuation payments on the Australian Taxation Office website.

Health Insurance

The Australian Government has signed Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA) with the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Norway, Slovenia, Malta and Italy.

This means that passport holders from these countries may be entitled to Australia’s healthcare service, Medicare.

Private medical insurance is available from insurers including:

It is recommended that all overseas visitors cover themselves with private insurance.
